5,000 to 6,000 bolts

The lightning storm of friday and saturday was unprecedented causing 5-6,000 lightning strikes.

As a result, there are 842 fires burning in the state from Big Sur to Napa to Humboldt to Shasta & Trinity.

A dry spring combined with a lack of marine layer and a High pressure system over Arizona and Nevada has fanned to flames with occasional offshore events, making an early fire season even more dangerous.

The Indians fire is over 57,000 acres and the Summit fire of a month ago flared up again.

The big news in the SC mtns is the third major fire of the season...and its only June. And the lightning we had the day after the solstice, where 40 more fires where started in the county. There are currently 500 fires burning in Northern California. Wow.
